After the 2021 Opera on The Road Zylan ne chantera plus (Zylan won’t sing anymore), composer Diana Soh used this phrase as a starting point; with writer Emmanuelle Destremau and director Alice Laloy, she created an original production for 35 young artists of the Lyon Opera Maîtrise and a machine orchestra. Left to their own devices as if on a desert island, the children in L'Avenir nous le dira experiment the agitation of a recently-formed group. Throughout their weather-based performance mixing machines and live beings, they experiment imbalance on every scale, until they come up with a new, promising set of actions. This recreational opera puts our fears and uncertainties to the test as a new utopia is collectively built.
