At the age of eleven, Leoannis Pupo-Guillen entered the Professional Arts School in Holguín (Cuba), then the Professional Ballet Academy in Camagüey. Principal soloist with the Camagüey Ballet from 2001 to 2004, he continued his career in the United States as principal dancer with the Roxey Ballet, where working with disabled dancers changed his vision of dance. Guest principal dancer with Northeast Youth Ballet, Costa Rican Youth Ballet, Northern California Ballet and Alaska Dance Theater from 2007 to 2011, he was principal dancer with Eugene Ballet Company, then soloist with Tiroler Landestheater. In 2015, he joined the Ballet de l'Opéra de Lyon.
