In a few words

This double programme of work by Ioannis Mandafounis and Russell Maliphant combines a new piece with one that is now entering the repertoire, a new visitor to Lyon with an old friend.

Introductory

This new work by Mandafounis, inspired by the "bis" of Nina Simone’s legendary Montreux concert, creates a dialogue between the personal and the public, between what goes on backstage, on stage and with the public. In Fallen, Russell Maliphant emphasises, without stereotyping, masculine qualities in figures around a circle, in human sculptures, in strange lifts and sharp movements.

Surge/Fluidity
Ioannis Mandafounis coming to Lyon is a big first for this choreographer with a very unique universe. With his attachment to the idea of recovering "the identity of the performer" and exploring the infinite possibilities of the body, the work of the former dancer with William Forsythe is anchored on the principles of pure improvisation and a definite taste for the sublimation of the present moment, the surge into action and the unexpected. Mastering the right gesture.
After Spiral Pass last year, Russell Maliphant brought Fallen into the repertoire of the Opéra de Lyon ballet. An exclusively male work, originally commissioned by the London Balletboyz, it shines thanks to its mixture of strength and sensuality, and the carnal fluidity of its 10 dancers wearing combat trousers. As for Armand Amar's musical score, it is remarkably integrated with the choreographer’s work, with the two coming together to form a whole.
