Mikio Kato began dancing at the age of five in his native Tokyo and studied for ten years at the Hitomi Takeuchi Ballet School. In 2011, he left to continue his training at the Princess Grace Academy in Monte-Carlo. He won prestigious prizes, including the gold medal at the Youth America Grand Prix in Japan and the Prix de Lausanne in 2014, the year he joined Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. Two years later, he joined Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and was promoted to soloist in 2019. He performs works by Crystal Pite, Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Johan Inger, Ohad Naharin and Akram Khan. He joined the Lyon Opera Ballet in 2023.
